I'm loving all the
Skillshare classes I'm taking (and you know I don't just pimp stuff unless I love it... and no one paid me to write a Skillshare review, but full disclosure I do get a free month if anyone signs up, but that really isn't why I'm mentioning it, ok this run-on sentence terribly digresses...). I just took a "mini" (really not so mini) class on creating a retro-futuristic postcard of a city, and of course I chose Merrill.
I started with a Pinterest board of
ads and other design from the "Atomic age" - 1940's to early 1960's. (Yes, I finally found a use for Pinterest, as an easy place to keep design inspiration.)
I really really liked the BOHN ads especially, so I decided to use a bit of three point perspective in my imaging of a retro-futuristic Merrill, but I went with one of Merrill's most recognizable landmarks to anchor the card. If I decide to do a series I'd like to include the Cosmo, Chips, the old Merrill City Hall,
the Lincoln House (oh sigh...), Council Grounds, T.B. Scott Library. Still, here's my first card, the Courthouse! Not sure exactly what I'm going to do with the design, if I'm going to sell it through something like Zazzle or what, but I'm pretty happy with how the design came out.
